I have several workstations running windows 7 x64 on a domain. Several of the workstations have a local printer attached to them via USB. Management wants users to be able to print to the various printers attached to the workstations. On each workstation I shared the printer and listed it in the directory. When browsing the workstations via the UNC path \\ws-x the printers show up. Users are not able to install drivers due to being a domain user. I found that if I log into the workstation as an administrator install the printer and then log in as a domain user, the regular user can then install that shared printer. I already have 2 printers that are attached to the network and are installed on a 2008 R2 printer server. Both those printers are pushed through Group Policy.
