I have two different domains on a network. One of them is bloomfieldct.org, runs windows 2008 and uses 192.* ip addresses. The other is prosser.bloomfieldct.org, runs windows 2003 and uses 10.* addresses. I have been struggling to establish a trust between them. Even though prosser.bloomfieldct.org looks like a subdomain of bloomfieldct.org, there don’t seem to be any entries in its dns pointing back to bloomfieldct.org. Also, there were no entries in the bloomfieldct.org Dns to point to prosser.bloomfieldct.org.
I added a conditional forwarder to the other domain server in each of the two Dns. I also put a record in the host file of each with the the ip address of the other. I can ping from the 2008 server to the 2003 server by ip address and by name. I can only ping by IP address in the other direction.
I tried to set up a new trust from the 2008 machine. I put in the domain name prosser.bloomfieldct.org, and it comes back telling me that it is not a valid windows domain name. I know very little about DNS (but a lot more than I did a few weeks ago.) I don’t know how to fix this. I don’t understand why it thinks that it is not a valid domain name.
Can anyone speculate on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
